In february this yer, Goodiebox became available in Belgium. So when I saw an add on Instagram, I subscribed to their service. In their first box, I got the Rose Lip Oil from Comme Deux and to this day, it's one of my favourite products I got through Goodiebox. Comme Deux is a young Danish brand, founded in 2017. They have some make-up products and some masks and face oils. Overall a nice array of products.

A couple of months later, I got a coupon for a discount of 25% on their products through Goodiebox. I went ahead and got a backup of the lip oil and I also bought their Powernap sleeping mask. Both will be reviewed for you today.

COMME DEUX #LIPLOVE Lip Oil

I have this one in the Rose and Peach version, but there also exist a red version. All three of them are clear. They are vegan-friendly and fragrance free, but the Rose and Peach ones smell faintly like rose and peach. Which doesn't mean they are not fragrance free. Interestingly enough, the ingredients list on the website is the same for all three of them. I threw away the boxes already, so I can't find any rose or peach extract and the slight scent is not mentionned on the website.

But let's talk about some ingredients that are listed:

Squalane: This is a natural component of skin sebum and has protective, regenerating and moisturising properties. A great ingredient!

Linseed Acid: A natural source of vitamin F, which is reconstructing and helps improve the elasticity of your lips. It also protects against meteorological influences, such as wind and temperature.

Tocopheryl Acetate: A vitamin E derivate, which is a very strong antioxidant. Protects against damage, caused by free radicals from UV exposure.

Sidenote: I'm not a big believer of the effects of antioxidants in skincare. I think you should get it from your nutrition. Seems more effective. I'm not saying it's a bad ingredient, I'm just saying it's a great marketing ingredient ;)

Ascorbyl Tetraisopalmitate: A stable form of vitamin C. Also an antioxidant, but I love vitamin C for it's brightening properties in other skincare. For your lips, it will help stimulate the natural production of collagen and elastin. And it's relatively high on the ingredient list, so maybe a decent concentration? I'm not a chemist, so let's hope so!

Prickly Pear: A moisturising and soothing oil, which is nice for a lip oil. Also loaded with vitamin E, fatty acids and omega-6s. It's a currently trending ingredient and mainly moisturising.

I think this is a great product! Lovely when used on it's own, but my favourite way to use it, is to first apply a thin layer of La-Roche-Posay Cicaplast and then layer the Comme Deux Lip Oil on top. Awesome as an overnight treatment!

Is supposed to quench a tired and dehydrated face: "A true master of moisturization, wake up ready to take on the day with hydrated, super-plumped skin", according to the website. It's for all skin types, fragrance free and vegan friendly. The main thing it claims to do is preventing transepidermal water loss. Which basically means it prevents our skin from losing water through evaporation. It has some sort of memory shaping texture, which means that the next time you want to use it, the surface of your cream will be smooth again. I don't think this is something very unique and uncommon to a cream. You can also use it as a quick pick-me-up mask, as a hand cream or leave it in the fridge to use as a refreshing eye mask. As you might already notice, I'm not the greatest fan of this one...

Let's talk a bit about the main star ingredients:

Polyeurethane-62: This is the main ingredient that prevents water loss through evaporation and that improves the skin barrier function . This is a polymer and functions as a thickener, emulsifier and as a film former. This is also the ingredient that gives the cream its smooth, silicone-y feeling texture.

Butylene Glycol: A moisturiser that holds on to water and enhaces the texture of your skin.

Propanediol: This natural hydrator is derived from corn and is great for dry, dull skin. It helps other ingredients to be absorbed more quickly into the skin ad it leaves a smooth, dewy finish.

Prickly Pear & Potassium PCA: The prickly pear we already discussed above at the Comme Deux Lip Oil, so I'm not going to repeat that. But the combination with the potassium PCA makes for a "master of moisturisation". It hydrates the skin by stimulating the water channels in our skin, which prevents water loss and reinforces the skin's natural barrier.

So... I don't like this one... I don't like the silicone-y texture and it's too heavy for my skin. It clogged my pores after two uses. I think the combination of glycerin (fats and oils), dimethicone (oil) and the polyeurethane-62 (water resistant) is just too heavy and the film-forming ingredients don't sink into the skin = sticks onto your pillow case. This one got degraded to body cream. It works great on my dry knees and elbows!

BUT we shall end this review on a high note: Comme Deux has a no questions asked return policy. I have not tested it, because I can't be bothered and I didn't pay the full €27 for it.

I think this is quite unique in Europe. You can return an opened and used item, without any problems. Awesome!

So overall, I love the lip oil, strongly dislike the sleeping mask. But I want to try more in the future and I love the brand's vision. I will just make sure to look more into the ingredients before I order :)
