Scandal Queen Waterproof Mascara Review

This item has been on my wishlist for over 6 years! I ordered this month when it was on sale on Feel Unique.

As some of you may already recognise, this is a Japanese mascara and it was created by TV personality Aya Yasuda.

After reading up on the brand on the Fairydrops website, I guess she created a mascara, because the eyes are the key to a lasting impression. And that impression might be important to stay relevant as a TV personality. For me, it were not her eyes, but the packaging that made the lasting impression, but anyhow her move to create a beauty product worked! It's been sold al over the world for years now and it never left my thoughts for over six years!

Let's look at some giant claims for this mascara:

-Waterproof formula won't smudge or flake - humidity, swimming, crying...no problem!

It is one of the best formulas I've tried so far when it comes to being waterproof. I have longer than average lashes and ALWAYS get mascara transfer underneath my brows. With this one, it was barely noticeable. Also performed really good when I had an extremely teary eye this week. 10/10

- 10 treatment essences protect and nourish.

I guess... I don't know. It's a mascara, not real fairy magic!

- Patented 3-sphere design reaches and catches even the tiniest of lashes! Don't agree with this one. Didn't catch my most inner and outer lashes, which I found very annoying. Your lashes also easily gather inbetween the spheres, which can make them clump together in a not-sexy, sad way.

- Fiber and volume-increasing wax give extreme length and volume.

I think the word 'extreme' only relates to the length. This is not the volume-giving hero product I hoped for. The fibers give a lot of length though, and they don't get into your eyes and such.

- Enhanced film & curl-keep polymer keeps even the most stubborn straight lashes curled all day long!

I agree. It doesn't curl your lashes by applying it, but when you first curl, then apply, the curl lasts about all day. My favourite for curled lashes stays the Lancôme Monsieur Big Waterproof though.

Here you can clearly see the three spheres, the slight curve of the brush and the fibres.

And there is a user manual:

Begin with the middle ball at the top of the arch.

Gently wiggle back and forth at the base of your lashes to catch.

Then rotate inwards as you draw straight up from root to tip in one continuous stroke.

I think the tips you get here do help to get more fanned-out lashes.

On this picture below you can see the before and after of my lashes after one good coat of mascara:

I wouldn't apply a second coad, because then I only got 5 sad clusters of lashes left. That middle one already looks questionable.

Final verdict

This mascara was just not made for me. I should've known. It's made for stick-straight Asian lashes. I need more volume and this mascara makes me want to apply false lashes at times. Unheard of!

If you do have short, straight lashes, I would give this one a try. I think the waterproof version of the Scandal Queen Fairydrops Mascara might just be the perfect mascara for you.

And look at this rose gold packaging. It's adorable!
